KISSIMEE, FL-A block party for the children of Central Florida Parkway has men, women, and children running in excitement.
On Sunday, September 21, 2008 the parents of this street thought that children needed to get in touch with one another with food, music, and games. Terri Butler of Orlando, Florida, the organizer, had this to say: "The parents and I had to take it back old school and show these kids what fun really was back then for us." She also added, " With no guns or gangs involved."
The day was a partly clouded and that signaled the neighborhood balloon fight. And as it started to rain, that didn’t stop the balloons from flying. Seeing children and adults teaming with one another and in the mist of all this.
"This was a great idea, because it brings everyone in the neighbor closer together like one big family." Says 22 year-old Spencer Harrison, who is a resident of this street.
Actually Butler says that this event was suppose to be something different. " It’s my daughters birthday and my step son’s birthday is 4 days away, and also it had happened to be my neighbors son birthday." Says Butler, " So we just brought it together, and then we decided to invite the whole block and call it something new, while still celebrating their birthdays."
Mostly everyone seemed to had fun doing all the games, like the dance contest, and different arts and crafts projects at different front yards. The day ending with a game of all-ages invited kick ball. With the final score being 10 to 9.
17 year-old, Sharnae Butler of Polk County Florida, had this to say," This party was a good idea because before, I didn’t know half this kids here." Ending with, "I had fun."
